The walls in this wacky sunken family room have been white!! Can I get a high-five?! It is a dramatic improvement in person. That peanut butter color was bringing the dingy and I’m so glad to see it gone. But besides that undertaking, this space is just not there yet. The furniture needs to be rearranged (pending wood floor installation in other rooms so the boxes can be removed from this room), the step-down needs to be finished, I wish I wasn’t still waffling about the rail/divider situation but I am, and the built-in has some tweaking coming it’s way. So this is the best I can do until then. Next steps include:
- Get rid of wood floor box pile and rearrange furniture – why are they still here???!!!!
Paint floors and ceiling- Remove baseboards and install new ones
Wallpaper??? Where???(It ended up in the dining room)- Paint built-in cabinetry or reconfigure???
Build curtain cornice boxes(Changed my mind on that one, for now)- Decide on railing or custom room divider and then make it happen
- Finish the step down and repair flooring around it
Buy or reupholster couchFind a coffee table- Get rid of fireplace door insert and install mesh curtain (done in the future!)
(Look^, the hole has been framed out!)
All the furniture in this room is vintage except the gold tables (Target), woven poufs (Ikea), and the couch (surprisingly JC Penney). Lately, I’m wishing there was more brown in here and less black, but oh well. I mentioned the curtains in that last post about the dining room, but we ended up re-hanging the original cream ones after we painted and I’m almost certain that I love them and that they no longer need a wood cornice box around them.
Not a huge difference but kinda a huge difference, from beige to white:
I still have a lot of work in here but I’m so glad the peanut butter wall days are behind us. See you next time!

Hi. I like the cork lamp. Any idea on maker or where to purchase one?

I assume you are talking about the huge one? It’s vintage and unmarked. No idea on maker! Sorry. I’ve only ever seen two others that were similar, but also unmarked, from mid century furniture dealers. I purchased it 20 years ago at an estate sale for $5! Best score ever.
